Papyrus Tips
Using Papyrus to cite in Adobe Pagemaker
Anyone who prefers a more stable Desktop Publishing solution against the problematic Microsoft Word application, might want to use Adobe Pagemaker together with the Papyrus Bibliography System.
This text informs about using Papyrus for Macintosh, Version 8.0.10 and Adobe Pagemaker 6.5.
Because Papyrus doesn't support Adobe Pagemaker in the first hand you will maybe have to take one more step than usually, but after all it's still simple.
- Write and format your text in Pagemaker like you used to. I recommend that you place the relevant windows of both applications on your screen, so that you can easily drag and drop references from Papyrus to Pagemaker. Be aware that you have chosen Placeholder as the format for drag and drop in Papyrus. What you get are placeholders in your Pagemaker document.
You can also start layouting images into your document. - If your text in Pagemaker is ready, choose text-modus (english version:APPLE-e, german version: APPLE-ü).

- Now you export the text, by choosing "Export" from the File menu and then "text".
In the appearing window you choose Rich Text Format and - this is the important part - check "Export tags" (Above in an image of a german Pagemaker version it is named "Formatmarken exportieren") in the options. Save your file to the desktop.

- It's Papyrus turn now. With Process Manuscript choose the RTF file which was saved by Pagemaker.
- The type of the text file is RTF.
- The master format is the format, in which your references list shall be printed.
Is your RTF text the whole Pagemaker document, you can tell Papyrus to insert the Bibliography at the end of the document.
Is it just a chapter, and the bibliography shall appear at the end of the book choose "Do not insert" for the moment.
Have you chosen "At end", you'll see another option field, where you can influence the appearance of the bibliography. If you have already created a format for the references in Pagemaker, you can insert here the name of the format in parentheses (i.e. <references>)
If you have chosen "Do not insert", it is important to save the group which Papyrus built for you. After working with all chapters you can put all the references from all groups together in one group, choose a sorting you need and export all the references into a file. This file can be imported by Pagemaker.

Choose positioning (APPLE-D) and choose the RTF file which has been processed by Papyrus. This file should end with .new. Again it's important to activate the feature reading format markings.
